Pterygia Surgery
Pterygia are small, fleshy growths on the surface of the eye, often appearing as raised, triangular-shaped bumps. It’s a common condition and is associated with exposure to UV light and environmental factors. While it’s generally benign, pterygia may progress to cause irritation, redness, and foreign body sensation. It may change the shape of the cornea, inducing astigmatism and decreasing your vision.
We can address pterygia with a specialized surgical procedure for removal and recurrence prevention, ensuring a clear and unobstructed view and better comfort.
Superficial Keratectomy (for Salzmann’s nodular degeneration)
Salzmann’s nodular degeneration is a slowly progressive corneal degeneration that can be associated with ocular surface inflammation and trauma. These bumps on the cornea may decrease vision by blocking or by inducing irregular astigmatism and tear film abnormalities. They may be symptomatic and cause tearing and foreign body sensations, and can affect measurements prior to cataract surgery.
Though we will often treat these medically in clinic, our practice can also remove these nodules if they become symptomatic or in preparation for cataract surgery.
