Joe Santamaria, MD
About Me
Dr. Santamaria is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Loyola Marymount University followed by medical school at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, IL, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He was also inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society awarded for excellence in leadership and compassion in patient care.
He completed residency training at Brooke Army Medical Center & Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX where he was a proud member of the United States Air Force, serving as the Chief of Comprehensive Ophthalmology since 2020. Dr. Santamaria enjoys teaching and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Texas A&M University College of Medicine. During his training he has also participated in several mission trips providing medical and surgical care to the underserved populations in Panama and the Dominican Republic. He loves getting to know his wonderful patients and values a well-rounded approach to patient care. He wants his patients to not only get high quality ophthalmic care, but also understand their disease process and management.
In his free time Dr. Santamaria enjoys relaxing with his wife and two daughters, rock climbing, reading, finance, and running with his Australian Shepherds.
